Educating and Improving Cancer Prevention

Dr. Anna is a GP in a small country town. She’s watched too many of her patients delay cancer treatment—not because they’re unwilling, but because they have nowhere to stay in the city. One patient, a single father, chose to forgo life-saving treatment so he could remain close to his children. It broke Anna’s heart.

Our 'One Thousand Doors' campaign will directly benefit families just like this—rural and regional patients who must travel long distances to access cancer care in the city, by raising vital funds to support Cancer Prevention and Support Association’s Patient Accommodation Program.

The funds raised will go directly toward providing a safe place to stay for patients and their families during treatment—reducing stress, financial burden, and isolation.

Every day, families from regional and rural Victoria travel hours to Melbourne for lifesaving cancer treatment. But while hospitals provide care, there’s nowhere for many of these families to stay. Right now 11 families are on a waitlist for Melbourne accommodation this month alone. Sadly, this is a common situation most months.

The 1000 Doors Campaign is your opportunity to change that.

Our Goal

To raise $400,000 to purchase a home near the Melbourne Hospital Precinct. This home will be a sanctuary for families undergoing cancer treatment — close to care, and together through it all.

Opening More Doors

By securing this first home with a 50% deposit (the $400,000), we’ll use the equity to invest in more homes across Melbourne in the coming years. Our 5 year plan is to open another three homes in Melbourne, all within a 1KM radius of the major treating hospitals. Whilst public transport is readily available, this also gives families the opportunity to enjoy an easy stroll if they choose to. Many family members have chosen to cook their loved ones their favourite meals and deliver them directly, bringing just a little more comfort and 'home' to the hospital. All of our homes across Australia are completely independent, with full kitchens and equipped with everything you need.

Why This Matters

  • Patients with strong family support during treatment show significantly better health outcomes.

  • There is a critical shortage of affordable, suitable accommodation for regional families in Melbourne.

  • A permanent home provides dignity, stability, and hope during one of life’s most challenging times.

  • The homes can accommodate extra relatives wanting to visit.

  • The families never have to celebrate special occasions in isolation, whether it be birthdays, anniversaries or Christmas.

How You Can Help

We're asking Victorian businesses, individuals, and community groups to each donate just $1,000. To say thanks, we will acknowledge your donation on a special 'Wall of Thanks' in the home, as well as online (only if you choose to of course).
We want all of the families staying with us to see and feel the support of everyone behind them during their journey.

Becoming a Founding Partner

If you want to get on board and become a Founding Partner, we are happy to discuss advertising opportunities, naming rights and other initiatives for larger donations. You could also sign up to help support with a donation towards each new home we open.
